French president Emmanuel Macron is speaking out after a video surfaced in which his wife was physical with him.
Macron played down an apparent quarrel with his wife, Brigitte Macron, after video emerged of her shoving his face while exiting an airplane, according to ABC News
“We are bickering and joking with my wife, and a video becomes a sort of geoplanetary catastrophe,” Macron said. “In the world we live in, we don’t have a lot of time to lose.”
The video shows Macron standing inside the aircraft when a woman wearing red sleeves extends her arms and hands to strike Macron in the face and shoved him away. Brigitte is not completely visible during the shoving but she appears seconds later wearing the red suit jacket that is shown during the spat.
The push seemed to startle Macron who took a few steps back before waving toward an audience outside the plane and making his way back toward Brigitte.
The incident occurred just after the couple landed in Hanoi, Vietnam Sunday.
“This is all a bit of nonsense,” Macron, 47, said when speaking on France’s BFMTV television channel Monday. He described the situation to be a “domestic scene.”
The French leader was traveling to Vietnam as part of a Southeast Asia tour. He is also set to visit Indonesia and Singapore soon.
