Billy Joel’s wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, expressed her gratitude to fans for the outpouring of love and concern they’ve expressed to her family.
“We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received,” Alexis Roderick Joel wrote in an Instagram post on Monday, sharing a photo of Joel, herself, and their two young daughters. “Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future.”
The singer/songwriter, 76, stated this past Friday that he would be canceling all upcoming shows across North America and Europe in 2025 due to a diagnosis of a rare brain disorder named normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” stated Joel’s team in a statement. Joel is undergoing physical therapy as advised by his doctor and was “advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”
Joel’s daughter, Alexa Rae, also shared a statement on her personal Instagram account, encouraging her father in his ongoing recovery.
“My Dad is the strongest and most resilient man I’ve ever known,” she noted. “He’s entirely committed to making a full recovery with ongoing physical-therapy treatments as he continues to regain his strength. The genuine care, empathy, and concern from everyone means so much to him… it means a lot to me, too.”
