Woman arrested in case of a malnourished dog found in a N.J. garbage bin, police say

A South Jersey woman was arrested Tuesday after a malnourished dog was found abandoned in a dumpster at a Camden County apartment complex, police said.

Lindenwold police said they arrested Turquoise Morton, 38, about four days after sharing a security camera image of a “person of interest” in the case.

Morton, of Lindenwold, is charged with abandoning a domestic animal and cruelty to animals, police said. She was brought to Camden County court, where she will stay at least until a detention hearing.

In March, Lindenwold police were called to Belmont Apartments on the White Horse Pike after a small white dog was found discarded in a trash bag put in a dumpster. The animal, which has since been adopted, was “severely” underweight and injured, police said.
