ANAHEIM, Calif. Jazz Chisholm has been telling the Yankees for a couple weeks that he’s over his oblique injury and ready to come off the injured list.

Soon.

The Yanks’ starting second baseman probably will be back by next week is this week goes well.

So far, so good.

After a light workout at Yankee Stadium on Monday, Chisholm was in Bridgewater, N.J., on Tuesday to take batting practice with the Double-A Somerset Patriots.

By Thursday, Chisholm could begin a rehab assignment with the Patriots, who are home all week for a series with the Akron RubberDucks that started Tuesday and runs through Sunday.

Before Tuesday’s game, Chisholm was in the Patriots’ first BP group with catchers Jose Flores and Antonio Gomes hitting for about 15 minutes with hitting coach Mike Fransoso pitching.

Chisholm hasn’t played since leaving a game in Baltimore on April 29 with right oblique discomfort. An MRI revealed a high grade strain that has three tears.

This type of injury usually has a four-to-six weeks recovery timeframe, but Chisholm has a history of being a fast healer and was telling the Yankees that he felt a lot better within days.

“He feels great, thankfully,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Sunday in SiriusXM MLB Network Radio interview. “He’s very athletic. He’s kind of like a mustang that’s being stabled right now. He wants to bust out.

“We’ve got to be smart about it because those ribcages can be tricky, but he looks really good. I don’t want to put a specific timeframe, but (he could return) sooner than later.”

Before his injury, Chisholm was off to a slow start at the plate. He was productive with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 30 games, but batted just .181 with 39 strikeouts in 125 plate appearances.
