The Knicks made it a series again after Sunday’s Game 3 Eastern Conference finals win over the Indiana Pacers, but an ESPN employee says one of his colleagues is bringing bad luck to his favorite team, and karma could be at play in their struggles because of his habit of mocking an NFL team.

ESPN Radio host and former Giants player Chris Canty said ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith was the cause of the Knicks falling behind 2-0 to the Pacers. Smith, an avid Knicks fan, has repeatedly mocked the Dallas Cowboys’ struggles.

Canty, who played the first four seasons of his career with the Cowboys, was pleased that Smith was there in person to see the Knicks lose on a big stage.

“Do you think that last night was karma for Stephen A. Smith rocking the cowboy hat and clowning the Dallas Cowboys throughout the football season, knowing how avid of a Knicks fan he actually is?” Canty asked after the Knicks lost Game 2 to the Pacers. “Maybe this is the sports gods exacting their revenge on Stephen A. Smith for bullying all of the Cowboys fans for their team having the longest conference championship game drought in the NFC.”

Smith responded Tuesday morning, saying Canty’s comments were a departure from when he first appeared on “Unsportsmanlike,” the show Canty co-hosts for the network.

“I’m telling you right now, he does a phenomenal job for us on ESPN Radio every morning, but ever since he got that radio show, he’s gotten more evil,” Smith said. “That’s what he’s done and that’s what he turned into. Chris Canty used to be this nice big teddy bear. That’s what he used to be. Then, all of a sudden, he gets the morning radio show and he is just slicing and dicing people up, calling folks frauds and everything like that. Now he’s trolling me. I’m going to get him.”

It will be interesting to see how Canty responds and what Smith has in store for him, especially after Tuesday night’s Game 4 in Indianapolis.
