ShopRite opened a new, state-of-the-art store in Watchung, N.J., this week and has a few giveaways in store for customers.
The supermarket is located at the Blue Star Shopping Center at 1701 US-22 in Watchung.
The 51,000-square-foot store will have departments that feature chef-prepared meals, a coffee bar, gourmet sandwiches, artisanal cheeses, fresh sushi, bigger meat, seafood and bakery areas.
Hiring for the store’s full and part-time positions started back in February.
The store’s official opening day is Wednesday, April 9, but the grand opening celebration will not start until Sunday, April 13, at 6 a.m.
The first 250 customers in line will receive a free carton of eggs and swag bags.
While ShopRite as a whole has not imposed any limits on egg purchases, it is best to check with your local ShopRite to confirm.
Early bird customers will also be treated to complimentary coffee and pastries from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 9 a.m. Sunday featuring Watchung Mayor Ronald Jubin, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, Scotch Plains Mayor Joshua Losardo and the Watchung Hills Regional High School Marching Band and Cheerleaders.
A community celebration of the store’s grand opening will follow with a DJ, free samples of food, food trucks with food available for purchase, giveaways, a caricature artist, face painting and other surprises for shoppers.
This egg carton freebie is a significant benefit for early-bird shoppers because of the increase in egg prices at supermarkets due to the bird flu outbreak. The bird flu outbreak caused a shortage of eggs at many grocery stores throughout New Jersey and the greater U.S.
Many of them decided to place limits on egg carton purchases, unlike most ShopRite stores that did not set limits.
