Quarterfinals statement wins, upsets of the 2025 boys tennis state tournament

The 2025 NJSIAA boys tennis team state tournaments are now through the quarterfinals.

Teams are really beginning to step it up in the bigger moments.

Scroll through below and take a look at a number of upsets, close matches and more from the latest round.

NORTH JERSEY, SECTION 1

GROUP 1

3-Pascack Hills 5, 6-Pompton Lakes 0

In one of the more evenly matched pairings in the quarterfinal round based on record, Pascack Hill took impressive wins at each flight. Jake Polsky downed Shayan Ahsan at first-singles 6-2, 6-2 while Jared Friend-Sam Koppelman took down Dylan Tinaza-Raymond Russo at second-doubles 6-0, 6-1. Carmelo Ambrocio swept the match against Benjamin DeLalla as Pascack Hills advances to play Glen Rock in the semifinal round.

GROUP 2

1-Demarest 4, 9-Paramus 1

Despite dropping the first-singles match, Demarest won handily over Paramus in every other flight. First-doubles took the most decisive win as Sean Kim and Avi Huber were near-perfect against Aiden Gershengoren and Brandon Plastovski 6-0, 6-1. Additionally, Neil Malhotra took the win at second-singles over Milan Shukla 6-1, 6-2.

GROUP 3

2-Morris Hills 5, 7-Morris Knolls 0

Morris Hills toughed out two important wins to take down Morris Knolls in the quarterfinal round. At first-singles, Samarth Desai won a close first set to take the win against Jacobo Dussan 7-5, 6-2. Similarly, first-doubles Vihas Veggalam and Yuma Nakahara took another close first set win on their way to a win over Kristian Kipp and Marek Kazik 7-5, 6-0.

GROUP 4

6-West Orange 3, 3-Montclair 2

In the lone upset in the quarterfinal round of the North Jersey, Section 1 Tournament, West Orange took two flights thanks to tiebreaker wins over Montclair. Second-doubles Liam Dodson and Joshua Montague came back after dropping their second set to Noah Zavolinsky and Javier Garcia Olmo, winning a 12-10 tiebreaker. Abdelrahman Hamouda crawled back after dropping his first set to Oliver Miedel to take a 10-6 tiebreaker win.

NORTH JERSEY, SECTION 2

GROUP 1

5-Caldwell 3, 4-Hasbrouck Heights 2

Looking strictly at the overall season record, Caldwell took a huge upset victory against a dominant Hasbrouck Heights team. Second- and third-singles both took swift wins for the Chiefs while the second-doubles sealed the win with a tiebreaker win. Jason Huang and Vincent Chi took a first set tiebreaker over Connor Ng and Carter Spittle before winning 10-7 in the tiebreaker at the end of the match.

GROUP 2

6-West Essex 4, 3-West Morris 1

West Essex had some standout performances in its upset win against West Morris. Drake Brandeis at third-singles took the win over Alex Trezza 6-1, 6-3. At first-doubles, Mason Blackburn and Gabe Herman took a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Antonio Capone and Enzo Hoerning.

GROUP 3

4-Ridge 5, 5-Summit 0

Ridge, No. 6 in the NJ.com Top 20, secured a win with two sweeps at third-singles and second-doubles against Summit, along with two tiebreaker wins. Nikhil Narsi swept Abdiel Iara at third-singles while Ben Gordon and Liam Chen were perfect against Acharya Vihan and Maximo Chiu. In tiebreaker wins, Vihaan Iyer edged Ben Lavkov in first-singles and Matthew Cech-Brain Lee downed Henry Deutsch-Dylan Schulberg in first-doubles.

GROUP 4

2-Watchung Hill 5, 7-Bayonne 0

Each of the doubles flights for Watchung Hills swept the competition against Bayonne. Gavin Montgomery and Leo Yao took the win over Yasseen Khalil and Keroloss Tawfek at first-doubles while Prakrit Saha and Aryaman Gupta prevailed against Stanley Gathuri and Ayush Patel. At first-singles, Advaith Busa took the win against Adam Khalil 6-1, 6-1.

CENTRAL JERSEY

GROUP 1

4-Edison Magnet 5, 5-Raritan 0

Edison Magnet entered the postseason with just one win, but now the Eagles are soaring into the sectional semifinals. Vaibhav Venkatesan pitched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at first singles, and third singles Ayush Tripathi did the same against Raritan.

GROUP 2

4-Ocean Township 5, 5-Holmdel 0

Todd Edison notched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at first singles in Ocean Township’s dominating triumph over Holmdel. Third singles Zach Sutton (2-6, 6-2, (11-9)) and second doubles Saj Shah/Alex Otero (4-6, 6-1, (13-11)) both came back to win, too.

GROUP 3

5-Colts Neck 4, 4-Northern Burlington 1

Three of the matches went to tiebreakers and Colts Neck won two of them in propel itself to the semifinals. Second doubles Ryan Narov and Anand Kharod won 6-3, 4-6, (12-10), and second singles Elliot Rudik held on for a 6-1, 3-6, (10-7) victory. Alay Galvankar at third singles cruised as well, 6-0, 6-2.

GROUP 4

4-East Brunswick 4, 5-Montgomery 1

Who knows how the match would have gone if Montgomery had its full singles lineup, but it is tough to play the “what if” game. What we do know is that Andrew Cui and Ashwin Deodhar at singles, and Jayden He/Romit Shah and Ajay Geria/Timur Savin at doubles all grinded out wins for East Brunswick. Deodhar came out on top, 6-3, 6-2, despite breaking strings on his racquet. Cui shook off early season woes to defeat a seeded state singles tournament player in Juan Miguel Pereyra, 6-2, 6-3. And both doubles also made comebacks of some sort as Shah and He at first doubles won 6-4, 7-5, while second doubles Savin and Geria won 5-7, 6-1, (10-6) in a tiebreaker.

3-Hillsborough 3, 6-Edison 2

Aayan Bakhru defeated Pranav Srinivasan, 6-2, 6-3 in a swing match at third singles. Edison had the talent to sweep all three single matches for the upset, but Bakhru prevented that from taking place. Hillsborough also swept doubles as well, 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1.

SOUTH JERSEY

GROUP 1

4-Woodstown 4, 5-Schalick 1

Two longtime Tri-County Conference foes, Woodstown got the better of Schalick in this matchup. Luke Shaw and Mason Shimp at first doubles (7-5, 6-3) and Ben Stengel and Vincent Merendinio at second doubles (7-5, 7-5) won a pair of key competitive matches. First singles Drew Stengel also notched a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win to set the tone.

GROUP 2

3-Haddon Heights 4, 6-Cedar Creek 1

Haddon Heights had the better depth in this quarterfinals matchup with Cedar Creek. Sean Fischer/Mike Pender won 6-1, 6-2 at first doubles, while Gavin Ewing/Milan Stocker at second doubles notched a 6-0, 6-4 victory. Heights also got a key 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles from Owen Peakes.

5-Middle Township 3, 4-Delsea 2

Middle Township survived despite falling at first and second singles by getting straight-set wins at third singles and both doubles. Michael Ratchford secured a 7-5, 6-4 win at third singles.

GROUP 3

3-Cumberland 5, 6-Deptford 0

Deptford is a 17-win team out of the Tri-County Conference-Diamond division, but Cumberland made its 5-0 win look easy. First doubles Asher Kennedy and Chase Sheppard combined to win 6-0, 6-1. Carter Fischer at third singles also secured a 6-1, 6-2 win while first singles Luke Fischer won by a score of 6-3, 6-1.

4-Ocean City 5, 5-Clearview 0

Two singles players won in 10-point tiebreakers to help Ocean City slip past Clearview. Second singles Joey Goodman held off Travis Lyons, 6-0, 5-7, (10-6), while third singles Todd Windfelder came back to top Dan Meader, 3-6, 7-6(7-5), (10-8). First singles Chase Bowman was also near perfect with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

GROUP 4

4-Southern 3, 5-Vineland 2

Second singles Garron Smith and third singles Jake Sliwinski each secured dominating victories to send Southern into the semifinals. Smith won 6-1, 6-1 while Sliwinski won 6-0, 6-1 for two of Southern’s points. The third came at second doubles where Luca Salluce and Alex Williams earned a hard-fought triumph, 7-5, 6-4.

NORTH

5-Bergen Catholic 3, 4-Montclair Kimberley 2

In a match between two NJ.com Top 20 opponents, No. 16 Bergen Catholic prevailed against No. 11 Montclair Kimberley. The match was ultimately decided after the second-doubles match went to a tiebreaker in favor of Bergen Catholic. Justin Choi and Daniel Calianese bounced back after dropping the second set to Nikhil Shah and Scott Skipper to take the tiebreaker 10-7.

SOUTH

2-Moorestown Friends 3, 7-Princeton Day 2

Moorestown Friends withstood a tough challenge from Princeton Day on Tuesday. Jack Cranmer at second singles (3-6, 6-3, (13-11)) and third singles Zev Smith (7-5, 4-6, (10-8)) each won in tiebreakers to lift the Foxes. Rafael Rauf at first singles also won 6-1, 6-1 as Moorestown Friends completed a singles sweep by narrow margins.
