The popular heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills sarcastically addressed fans who were concerned that they had used an AI-generated image to promote a Memorial Day weekend merchandise sale.

The picture in question, showing Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees grilling barbecue, was posted on the band’s social media accounts. Soon after, fans and Metal Injection noted the discrepancies within the photo. On Sunday, Ice Nine Kills responded to the backlash with yet another AI-generated image.

“We are vigorously investigating the disturbing claims that a recent promotional image was sloppily birthed by AI,” they said in an X post. “We solemnly pledge to get to the bottom of this horrific headline-making crime against Redditors. For now, enjoy our new promo photo, taken just moments ago.”

Due to the response, any mention or posting is currently banned on the metalcore subreddit.
