N.Y. Times roasted for sanewashing ‘lunatic’ Trump: Is ‘Karoline Leavitt moonlighting’ as headline writer?

The New York Times — that media bastion of balance and fairness that demanded that Joe Biden withdraw from the presidential race before declaring that convicted felon, adjudicated rapist and coup plotter Donald Trump is unfit for the office — is determined to make sanewashing the American pastime.

After Trump’s rambling, unhinged address to the graduating cadets at West Point on Saturday — after which he bolted to play golf instead of shaking the graduates’ hands as presidents before him have — the Times headline read, “Trump Gives Commencement Address at West Point, Stresses New Era.”

Certainly, the Times can’t mean “a new era” of a president who disrespects American troops, because he did that in his first term.

Meanwhile, the headline on a similar story for the Independent proclaimed, “Trump gives rambling speech about trophy wives, golf and the ‘late great’ Al Capone in politically charged West Point address.”

Could those two media outlets possibly have watched and reported on the same speech?

Said former MSNBC host Katie Phang: “Trump delivered the commencement address at the United States Military Academy — West Point — one of the most respected military institutions in the country. These are bright, talented young men and women about to embark on the next stage of their lives. And what they got was a rambling, incoherent, dementia-laden rant. Just pure diarrhea of the mouth from Donald Trump. It was a clear example of his lack of mental acuity and basic competency. He has no faculties left that remain uncompromised."

And, just for context, here is the social media post Trump published on Memorial Day — just to give the New York Times a look into the president’s “new era” mindset, which already has defied the Constitution, scoffed at the Supreme Court, dismantled the federal government and opened or threatened investigations into several of political adversaries:

“HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,0000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE, THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALES, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERFS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDERER, AND RAPE AGAIN — ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL,” he continued. “BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS, AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN! AGAIN, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!”

“The New York Times loves Donald Trump,” one Bluesky user posted.

Another posted a comment from a New York Times reporter that insisted the media outlet is holding itself accountable with the remark: “That can’t be right.”

Posted another: “Karoline Leavitt appears to be moonlighting as a headline writer at the New York Times ...”

New York Times Pitchbot, a stinging Times parody account on Bluesky, posted a snarky poke at the newspaper: “Donald Trump‘s deranged Memorial Day screed against federal judges raises two serious questions: When exactly was former president Biden diagnosed with cancer? And why has he not held a solo press conference to address it?”

Outside of the Times, the reaction was swift and brutal:

“Donald Trump is a deranged lunatic who wouldn’t be allowed to manage a Wendy’s,” The Bulwark.com’s Sarah Longwell wrote on X. “But I guess we all have to pretend like this is normal and not 25th amendment behavior. People who treat this as acceptable are the insane ones.”

Jessica Tarlov, a co-host of Fox’s “The Five,” reshared that and wrote, “Between this and his West Point address, it’s pretty clear Donald Trump isn’t concerned with the troops and is just in it for himself. No mention of the fallen soldiers from our Commander in Chief.”

“Instead of honoring the sacrifice of fallen soldiers, Trump just made Memorial Day all about himself and his imagined enemies,” songwriter Bill Madden wrote on Twitter/X. “There has never been a United States president who is more unfit for office.”

“No President disrespects our troops more than Trump does,” former MAGA loyalist Joe Walsh wrote on Twitter/X. “He called American service members who died in war “losers & suckers.” His Memorial Day message here is no surprise bcuz today is about something Trump has ZERO understanding of — sacrifice. Trump is the antithesis of sacrifice.”

After Trump’s address at West Point, Walsh added: “He’s such a f-cking embarrassment. Ignore him this weekend. This weekend, think only of those brave souls who wore the uniform and died defending freedom and serving this country. Think only of them.”

Trump continued his Memorial Day Weekend insanity at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday by insisting that because God was on his side, the United States landed the 2026 World Cup soccer tournament and the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

“We have the World Cup and we have the Olympics,”Trump said. “Can you imagine, I missed that four years and now look what I have, I have everything. Amazing the way things work out. God did that.”
