A 21-year-old Cumberland County man was arrested after being seen at the Jersey Shore pointing an “assault-style rifle” from a car, according to police.
The Bridgeton resident was seen Wednesday in Wildwood brandishing the weapon through the car’s driver-side window, authorities said.
Footage from a dashboard video camera and a business surveillance video helped police file charges, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
The suspected weapon was taken from the man’s house when investigators performed a search of the home in the 300 west block of Broad Street in Bridgeton Thursday, the prosecutor’s office said.
The man is charged with third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, the prosecutor’s office said. He was transported back to Cape May County and lodged in its jail, the office said.
Investigators did not say if the act was directed at a particular person or group of people.
“We remain committed to aggressively investigating and prosecuting these dangerous offenses,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a statement. “This arrest sends a clear message that such reckless behavior will not be tolerated in the city of Wildwood or anywhere in Cape May County.”
