President Donald Trump’s approval rating just got another small bump, a new poll found.
The latest YouGov/The Economist poll found that Trump’s approval rating jumped up one percentage point since the survey was conducted last week. According to the new poll, 46% of registered voters approve of how Trump is handling his job while 52% disapproved.
This is slightly up from last week, when 45% of registered voters approved of how Trump is handling the job. The poll also found similar results when it asked all Americans about Trump’s job performance, with 44% saying they approve and 52% saying they disapprove.
The poll found that 10% of Republicans and 56% of independent voters disapprove of Trump’s job performance. Democrats overwhelmingly disapprove of his job performance with just 6% saying they approve of it.
To be clear, Trump’s approval rating still remains historically low when compared to other presidents at the beginning of their terms. According to Reuters, former President Joe Biden had a 55% approval rating at a similar point in his presidency.
According to YouGov, Biden had a net approval rating of plus 14 points at this point in his presidency while Trump has a minus 8 points.
The latest poll also asked respondents about the health of presidents. The poll comes about a week after CNN’s Jake Tapper released a new book, “Original Sin,” that details the alleged “cover-up” of Biden’s cognitive decline in office.
The poll found that 57% of Americans, including 28% of Democrats, believe that Democrats tried to conceal information about Biden’s health during his presidency. About 42% of Americans said that Trump is being transparent about his health, while just 31% said Biden was transparent about his health.
The poll was conducted among 1,660 U.S. citizens May 23-26 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
Other polls have shown Trump’s approval rating slightly improving in recent weeks.
A recent Morning Consult poll showed 48% of voters approving of Trump’s job performance—his highest approval rating Morning Consult has recorded since mid-March. The poll showed that half of the voters still disapproved of Trump’s job performance, but that dropped two percentage points since the previous week.
Another poll, sponsored by a conservative media outlet, showed improvement in Trump’s approval rating earlier this month. The Quantus Insights poll showed a virtual tie, with 48.2% of respondents saying they approve of Trump while 48.3% said they disapprove.
