The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced more than 75 New Jersey high school seniors have won recognition in its 2025 awards.
The New Jersey students are among more than 2,500 winners nationwide of National Merit $2,500 Scholarships financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation with its own funds.
Winners were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors from a pool of about 16,000 finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The scholars were selected based on their academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned, scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay written by the finalist and a recommendation written by a high school official.
In some case, recipients are named honorary winners because the winner’s educational plans or other awards preclude receipt of a monetary scholarship.
