A man convicted of fatally stabbing a 23-year-old in Jackson in 2020 was sentenced Wednesday to 24 years in state prison, authorities said.
J’Shawn Cutler, 28, of Jackson, was found guilty earlier this year of aggravated manslaughter and weapons-related offenses for the death of Isaiah Renouf, also of Jackson, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Officers were called to a home on Cannon Boulevard around 5 a.m. on June 19, 2020, after a resident called 911 to report an injured person, the office said.
Police found Renouf on the floor of the home with a large wound to his chest and they began lifesaving efforts before he was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, investigators said. Renouf died at the hospital.
A post-mortem examination by the Ocean County Medical Examiner determined that Renouf died from a stab wound to the heart, and his death was ruled a homicide, authorities said.
An investigation revealed that Cutler was the person who stabbed Renouf in the home and he was arrested on June 19, 2020, following a motor vehicle stop in Lakewood, the office said.
No motive for the killing has been disclosed by the office.
Cutler has been detained in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
