Man fatally struck by NJ Transit train near station in Union County

NJ Transit said a man trespassing on train tracks near the Summit Station in Union County early Tuesday was fatally hit by a train from New York.Google Maps

A man who authorities say was trespassing on train tracks was fatally struck by a New Jersey Transit train early Tuesday in Union County, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 1:28 a.m. near the Summit Station, located at Broad and Elm streets in Summit.

There were no injuries to the approximately 50 customers and crew members on the train, according to a spokesman for NJ Transit.

The train left New York Penn Station at 12:34 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Dover at 2:13 a.m.

The victim’s name was not released. NJ Transit police officers are leading the investigation, the spokesman said.
