The New York Knicks’ season was on the brink of slipping away on Sunday, before Karl-Anthony Towns kept his team alive and put it back in the series with a 20-point fourth quarter showing.
Now, New York will attempt to even the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
During the current postseason, the Knicks have won six of seven road games. No lead is ever safe against them, either. New York has set an NBA record with three comeback wins of 20 points during the current postseason.
Tom Thibodeau also went deeper into his bench in the first game, primarily because of foul trouble, but using players such as Delon Wright and Landry Shamet proved to be successful moves. Using more reserve options against the frenetic Indiana attack apparently worked in the Knicks’ favor, and the Pacers were held to 20 points in the fourth quarter.
To knot the series and continue to keep the season going, New York may need better play from Jalen Brunson after a down playoff performance in Game 3. Can the Knicks continue to pull miraculous heroics off, or will they simply earn a solid victory?

This is certainly not an easy game to call when considering the spread and moneylines. Now the onus is on the Pacers to respond to a defeat for the first time in the series. Indiana’s issue, though, is it may not have a regular answer for Towns on defense.
If “KAT” is operating as a truly outstanding complementary option to Brunson, New York will have a good shot to win Game 4 and send the series back to Madison Square Garden locked at 2-2.
The Knicks were down in a series for the first time in these playoffs and are now on the verge of getting right back into it, which did not seem like a possibility in the first half of Game 3.
In Game 3, the Knicks overcame foul trouble and poor shooting from the field from Brunson, but likely still need him to be an offensive pillar to earn another win.
The New York star missed 12 of 18 field goal attempts and four of five three-point attempts. Expect a bounce-back performance from Brunson as the Knicks try to deliver a more complete and balanced effort.
Getting consistent contributions from Mikal Bridges (Over 16,5 points at BetMGM Sportsbook), one of the top sportsbooks in New Jersey) and OG Anunoby (Over 15.5) can only boost the outlook.
Going with the Over is always a good option when the Pacers are involved, and the final score went past the projected Game 4 total in the first two games of the series. New York might try to turn down the tempo at times, but can also win the battle on the boards and push the pace itself at times in transition.
Mitchell Robinson is expected to start again, and it is an inviting play to take him to go Over 8.5 rebounds on BetMGM Sportsbook. Josh Hart is also at 8.5. There are several viable player prop choices on both sides of the ball in this game.
Indiana needs another big performance from Pascal Siakam, and he is another quality props target at Over 20.5 points. The Knicks have been burned enough by the slithery T.J. McConnell to go with him at Over 8.5 points.
Playing strong defense on Tyrese Haliburton down the stretch will be crucial for New York, so take Towns to outscore him at -118 on the head-to-head matchup at BetMGM Sportsbook.
Knicks vs. Pacers moneyline odds analysis
Why Indiana could win as the favorite
Best Odds: -135 at bet365
Before Game 3, Indiana owned a nine-game home playoff winning streak against New York. Siakam’s 39 points in Game 2 was two short of the franchise postseason record. As previously indicated, he is an essential performer for the Pacers in Game 4.
The Pacers are more battle-tested in this series, as they are appearing in the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive season. Indiana has won 10 of 13 total games in the current NBA playoffs, with only one loss in every series so far.
Haliburton has registered seven playoff double-doubles and leads the NBA with 9.6 assists in the postseason. He is averaging 21.7 points and 9.7 assists in the series, per Field Level Media.
Indiana outrebounded New York 38-37 in Game 3, which was a good sign for a team that has been at a disadvantage on the boards for most of its matchups against the Knicks this season. The Pacers might also put a bad three-point shooting game against them too, as it is not likely they will shoot 20 percent from deep again.
Why New York could win as the underdog
Best Odds: +115 at Caesars Sportsbook
In Game 3, Anunoby finished with 16 points on 66.7 percent shooting and added three blocks. Bridges scored 15 points, and the Knicks need their wings to continue to be a factor on offense in Game 4.
Towns recorded his seventh 20-point double-double this postseason in Game 3. His total of playoff double-doubles is the most by a Knicks player in the postseason since 1994.
In Game 1, Brunson scored 43 points on 60 percent shooting. It was his eighth career 40-plus point playoff game, which passed Bernard King for the most in franchise history. He also now has the most 30-point postseason games in franchise history, with 19.
Towns and Brunson are the first duo in Knicks history to score 30-plus points in the same playoff game twice. New York’s five road wins to open the playoffs were the longest such streak in team history.
Robinson is averaging 7.7 rebounds per game in the Eastern Conference Finals. New York shot 90 percent from the free-throw line in Game 3. The Knicks outscored Indiana in Points in the Paint, 40-32.
