Jury convicts N.J. man who tried to lure 2 children on messaging app

A jury has convicted a man of attempting to lure two children for sex on a messaging app.

Brian Stewart, 42, formerly of Clifton, was found guilty of four counts of attempted aggravated sexual assault, three counts of luring, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and attempted endangering the welfare of a child, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Tuesday.

The verdict was returned on Friday following a three-day trial.

Stewart was arrested in April of last year after an investigation into his activities on the Kik messaging app. Authorities alleged that he contacted two children on the app and tried to lure them to the town of Boonton for sexual intercourse.

Stewart’s sentencing is scheduled for July 25.
