Police in Wildwood said they have already put a halt to a potential “pop-up party” being organized for this weekend.
“We have taken preemptive measures to prevent this group from organizing this unsanctioned event and have identified the organizers,” police said in a statement on Wednesday. “Due to these preemptive efforts the organizers have cancelled the event on their social media sites. We are working with local and state agencies to promptly shut down this unsanctioned event, if it takes place, and to hold all participants accountable.”
Wildwood police also warned owners of rental properties —including private residences and motels — to be cautious about who they rent to this weekend.
“These groups are known to take over rental properties and cause property damage,” police said.
Last month Wildwood officials said they’d be more strictly enforcing a 10 p.m. curfew for minors 17 and under and that parents could face fines if their teens become unruly.
Wildwood police have demanded in past years that organizers of potential large gatherings cancel their planned events.
The announcement comes as Wildwood and other Jersey Shore towns prepare to deal with unsanctioned — and often unruly — pop-up parties, as the coastline enters its summer tourism season.
