‘Harry Potter’ TV series casts Harry, Ron, and Hermione — meet the young stars

The upcoming “Harry Potter” television series has announced which three young actors will play Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will portray the role of Hermione Granger in the HBO series.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod said in a statement. “We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

McLaughlin, who will step into the titular role originated by Daniel Radcliffe, is also set to appear in the upcoming comedy film “Grow,” according to his IMDb page. He studied at the Performance Academy Scotland. The drama school celebrated his “Harry Potter” casting via Facebook.

“The news is out and this one is MAGICAL!! Our amazing young performer has been cast as HARRY POTTER in the new upcoming HBO TV series. We are not sure that this will ever feel real but we said from the start that Dominic was the perfect Harry & we are thrilled for everyone else to see this soon too,” the social media post reads. “Dominic, we will forever be proud of you! We have had an incredible journey with you these last 5 years at TPA and can’t wait for what’s next on this journey!”

Stout, who is set to play Ron, previously appeared in a commercial for Albert Bartlett potatoes. Stanton, the show’s Hermione, played the role of Matilda Wormwood in the West End production of “Matilda the Musical” from September 2023 to March 2024.

McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton, join previously announced cast members John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell), and Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch).

A premiere date has not yet been announced for the television adaptation of “Harry Potter,” which is based upon the book series by J.K. Rowling. The series is expected to debut in late 2026 or early 2027.
