Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has lost two of his most valuable lieutenants in recent years with the departures of Jake Rosenberg and Anthony Patch.

Now, the Eagles are getting one of their more valued front-office members back with the return of former vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas. The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported the return of Douglas, who was most recently the general manager of the Jets.

Douglas joined the Eagles in 2016 and left in June of 2019 when he was hired by the Jets. He was fired in the middle of last season. During his tenure, the Jets went 32-68 and failed to record a winning season.

The Jets, however, did have some strong draft classes during Douglas’ tenure with the 2022 class leading the way. He drafted cornerback Sauce Gardner with the fourth overall pick that year and he was a first-team All Pro in each of his first two seasons while also winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the 10th overall pick in 2022, was the Offensive Rookie of the Year and has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first three years.

Linebacker Jermaine Johnson, the team’s other first-round pick in 2022, was a Pro Bowler in 2023, but missed all but two games last season with a torn Achilles injury.

Douglas also hit on running back Breece Hall in the second round of the 2022 draft.

Edge rusher Will McDonald, the 15th overall pick in the 2023 draft, had 10 1/2 sacks in his second season with the Jets.

Douglas also had his share of misses with the Jets (2020 and 2021 drafts no so good), but Roseman had a ton of trust in him during his Eagles’ tenure and the GM is sure to be happy to have his football opinion back in the room after recently losing so many valuable members of his team.

Rosenberg spent 12 years with the team before leaving his role as the team’s vice president of football administration in March of 2024.

Earlier this month, the Eagles lost Patch, the team’s senior director of college scouting who had been with the organization since 2002. He left to take the job of senior personnel executive with the Raiders.

Since the draft, the Eagles have also lost senior director of scouting Brandon Hunt to the Raiders and national scout Jordon Dizon to the Broncos.
