Each week, NJ Advance Media will select Players of the Week for each conference to highlight the best boys tennis players in the state

Players are chosen based on tournaments completed and matches reported to njschoolsports.com from May 14-20.

Boys Tennis: Northern Burlington at Moorestown Friends School, April 15, 2024

Burlington County Scholastic Conference

Gabe Harvey, Sr./Zaydan Lalani, Jr., Moorestown Friends

Moorestown Friends defeated Northern Burlington in all five flight finals at the BCSL Tournament on Monday. At first doubles, Harvey and Lalani blanked Aniketh Chadive and Aryan Oza, 6-0, 6-0. Harvey and Lalani are 9-2 on the season in the Foxes’ dual matches.

Big North Conference

Thomas MacDougall, Don Bosco Prep, Sr.

MacDougall captured the first singles title at this past weekend’s Bergen County Spring Invitational. MacDougall defeated Teaneck’s Felipe Gutarra in the final, 6-0, 6-2. The senior also defeated Old Tappan’s Kiran Gurunathan on the week, 6-4, 6-3 to move to 10-0-1 in dual matches. MacDougall, who didn’t enter the singles tournament, likely would have been seeded, organizers say.

Cape-Atlantic League

Brendan Sardy, So./Gabe Meron, So., Ocean City

Sardy and Meron lost a few matches during a one-week stretch earlier in the month. But since then, the first doubles duo have won two in a row to move to 11-2 together on the year. Sardy and Meron most recently helped Ocean City advance past Central Regional in the first round of the South, Group 3 tournament by winning 6-1, 6-1 at their flight. Sardy and Meron also captured the doubles title at this month’s Cape-Atlantic League Tournament.

Colonial Conference

Declan Mennuti, Sr./Nathan Keating, Jr., Haddon Township

Mennuti and Keating together won the doubles title at this past weekend’s Colonial Conference Tournament. The second doubles pair defeated Haddon Township’s second doubles duo of Drew Brand and James Gordon in the final, 6-7(0-7), 7-5, (12-10). Mennuti and Keating also downed Haddonfield’s first doubles of Courtney Malcarney and Connor Mollis in the semifinals, 4-6, 7-6(7-4), (10-8).

Colonial Valley Conference

Faizan Mohammad, Fr./Michael Zhou, Princeton Day

Mohammad and Zhou both had standout weeks on the court. Princeton Day beat Trenton and Hightstown this week in preparation for the state tournament. Zhou won at third singles against Trenton, 6-0, 6-0, and the two together won at second doubles against Hightstown, 6-4, 6-2. Mohammad also earned a first doubles win over Trenton, 6-3, 6-1.

Greater Middlesex Conference

Grayson Kahng, Metuchen, Sr.

Kahng won twice more this week to improve to 11-1 on the season at first singles in Metuchen’s dual matches. Kahng defeated Old Bridge’s Elijah Cabalan, 6-2, 6-1 and Dunellen’s 6-0, 6-0. The latter match came in Metuchen’s opening round win in the Central, Group 1 tournament. Kahng has been a big reason why Metuchen is still 12-0 on the year.

Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League

Kyle Oh, St. Peter’s Prep, Sr.

Oh lifted St. Peter’s Prep to the Hudson County Tournament team championship on Monday. Oh notched a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) win over Andres Lopes at first singles to provide the clinching third point in his team’s 3-2 victory. Oh also took Bayonne’s Adam Khalil, the singles winner at the Bergen-Hudson Tournament earlier in the season, to a 10-point tiebreaker in the semifinals last week.

New Jersey Athletic Conference

Luke Cimino, Sr./Scott Sullivan, Sr., Madison

Cimino and Sullivan are believed to be Madison’s first-ever players that made the final round of the Morris County Tournament. The senior duo advanced into the last match of the first doubles bracket, beating Delbarton in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-4. Cimino and Sullivan’s lone regular season loss was to Blair, and the tandem are a combined 31-1 in dual matches the last two years.

North Jersey Interscholastic Conference

Tommaso Scordo, Leonia, So.

Scordo reached the final round at second singles at the Bergen County Spring Invitational to help Leonia tie for the team championship. The sophomore also earned two solid dual team dual match wins over Dwight-Englewood’s Asher Cohen, 3-6, 6-4, (10-8) and Park Ridge’s Matthew Komoto, 6-2, 6-1 this week.

Olympic Conference

Benjamin Rider, Sr./Bryan Reese, Sr., Cherry Hill West

Cherry Hill West might have fallen in the first round of the South, Group 3 tournament, but Rider and Reese won their match at first doubles. The tandem won 6-4, 6-2 over Hammonton, and they also defeated Rancocas Valley, 6-2, 6-0 in a regular season dual on Monday. Earlier this month, Rider and Reese won the Olympic Conference-National division doubles title.

Super Essex Conference

Michael Siclari, Verona, Jr.

Siclari moved to 13-6 at first singles for Verona with three wins in the past week. Siclari guided Verona past Whippany Park in the first round of the North 2, Group 1 tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kenneth Lin. Siclari also defeated Cedar Grove’s Edward Matos twice, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-4 in two regular season matches.

Shore Conference

Sourish Gadhi, Marlboro, Sr.

Gadhi earned the first singles title at the Monmouth County Tournament over the weekend. The senior beat Ocean Township’s Todd Edison in the championship match, 6-4, 6-3. Gadhi won his previous round matches in convincing fashion as well, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2. Gadhi also helped Marlboro win the team crown with his victory. He guided the Mustangs into the Shore Conference Tournament final as well.

Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament finals boys tennis

Skyland Conference

Jake Christensen, Hunterdon Central, Fr.

This honor was long overdue for Christensen. The freshman won the first singles title at the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament back in April, and has gone 8-4 since in dual matches. Three of his losses were to the Somerset County Tournament first singles winner and runner-up, and the other was in a super tiebreaker. Tuesday, Christensen forced the SCT champ, Niranjan Ramalingam into a second-set tiebreaker. He also won 6-1, 6-1 over Bound Brook’s Diego Reyes and Franklin’s Agustus Shaik, 6-2, 6-4.

Gloucester County boys tennis champions

Tri-County Conference

Zeph Kell, Delsea, So.

Kell won the singles title at Monday’s Gloucester County Open. Kell gave Delsea back-to-back singles winners as he topped Carter Watson of West Deptford, 6-0, 6-4. Kell is 13-2 in team dual matches from the first singles slot this season as well for the Crusaders.

Boys Tennis: New Providence vs. Westfield, April 21, 2025

Union County Conference

Chris Winters, Westfield So.

Coming into the season, Westfield’s coaches were high on Winters. The sophomore went on to win his challenge matches to take over the first singles slot. Since then, he’s lived up to the hype. In the last week alone, Winters has gone 4-0 with two wins over seeded players in the state singles tournament, Brayden Bonetti of Delbarton (7-6(7-3), 1-6, (10-5)), and Ryan Hao of Pingry (6-3, 2-6, (10-6)). Winters also defeated two more solid players in Ridge’s Vihaan Iyer, 6-1, 6-3, and Watchung Hills’ Advaith Busa, 6-2, 6-1.
