There’s a hulking stone structure on Ocean Avenue in Monmouth Beach that could be mistaken for an old lighthouse.
But it’s actually a newer-built home whose design was intended to take advantage of the sweeping ocean views.
“It was intentionally designed to look like a historic lighthouse-style home and be reminiscent of the light houses up and down the Atlantic coast,” said Matthew Taetsch of Corcoran Baer & McIntosh, the listing agent.
Built in 2005, the four-bedroom, three full- and one half-bathroom home is listed for sale for $4.9 million.
It’s set up so that the living area is on the second level to maximize the views.
“It’s elevated,” he said, “so when you’re in the kitchen and the living room you’re not looking at the seawall or the traffic on Ocean Avenue. You have views of the Atlantic Ocean.”
You enter the 5,860-square-foot home through an arched door onto Brazilian teak wood floors. On this first level there are three bedrooms, a laundry room, a recreation room and two full bathrooms.
The second level has an open-concept dining room and living room with coffered ceilings and large windows and doors leading to a wrap-around porch with ocean views. The living room also has a gas fireplace.
Adjacent to the living room is a family room, also with porch access. The kitchen has a Viking stove, a full-sized wine fridge and an oversized Sub-Zero refrigerator.
The third floor has the primary bedroom, a full bathroom and a balcony. There is also a rooftop deck.
The home has been on the market for about a month and Taetsch said he’s had about 1,000 inquiries.
“People love the floor plan and the views,” he said. “We’ve had horrible weather or else, in my opinion, the home would be sold.”
The buyer will likely be someone who is looking for an oceanfront retreat with privacy and views, Taetsch said.
“You have unobstructed views of the ocean,” he said. “From the rooftop you can see the Shrewsbury River, the ocean and, on a clear day, the New York City skyline.”
The home is ideal for a multi-generational family because it is ADA compliant and has an elevator that serves all three levels, he said.
The beach is accessible across the street and downtown Monmouth Beach and downtown Sea Bright are within walking distance.
“It is arguably on one of the finest blocks in Monmouth Beach,” Taetsch said.
