Two Essex County men admitted to robbing a mail carrier at gunpoint in 2023, officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
Dyshawn Williams, 28, of Newark pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a federal officer and conspiring to commit robbery.
Karieem Stamps, 26, also of Newark pleaded guilty to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and weapons offenses.
Authorities said three people robbed a U.S. Postal Service worker at gunpoint in November 2023 and took a wallet, keys and a cell phone.
The wallet included debit and credit cards that were used by two people, including Stamps, shortly after the robbery, according to officials.
Stamps was found with a handgun and an extended magazine with 26 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition on Aug. 1, 2024, officials said.
Williams’ sentencing is scheduled for July 22, according to court records. Sentencing for Stamps is scheduled for Aug. 19, according to his attorney.
“Mr. Williams has accepted responsibility and pled guilty and looks forward to returning to his family and community as a reformed and productive member of society,” William’s attorney Laura K. Gasiorowski said.
An attorney for Stamps declined to comment on his guilty plea. Williams’ attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.
